Westville hands Comet football first loss
By Fred Kroner
Dalton Hobick returned a kick 70 yards for a touchdown and receiver Josh Young scored a TD, but Oakwood’s two-game football winning streak ended on Friday (April 2) at home against Westville, 20-14.
The Comets drove to the Westville 2-yard line with 7.6 seconds left in the fourth quarter, but an interception on the game’s final play thwarted the comeback bid.
Brevin Wells passed for 147 yards. Young had 75 receiving yards.
Defensively, Landon Nixon led the Comets with nine tackles.
“Credit to Westville,” Oakwood coach Al Craig said. “They had a great game plan and really took away some things we wanted to do.
“We had some uncharacteristic penalties and turnovers that really hurt us.”
Oakwood (2-1) returns to action on Friday (April 9) at Salt Fork.
