Tevebaugh breaks school scoring record in win over Centennial
By Fred Kroner
Senior Brady Tevebaugh broke the Oakwood/Salt Fork career scoring record on Saturday (April 10) with a goal at home, accounting for the lone tally in a 1-0 soccer win over Champaign Centennial.
The goal was his 21st of the season and 40th of his career. The previous career mark of 39 goals was held by Dawson Rogers.
In addition to accounting for the difference in the non-conference match, Tevebaugh’s goal (assisted by Sam Howie) was the team’s 60th of the year, also a school record.
Previously the Comets broke the single-match program scoring record with 14 goals at Watseka.
The 2016 team ended its season scoring 59 goals.
Goalkeeper Aaron Dean stopped six Charger shots.
Oakwood/SF held a 7-6 edge for shots on goal.
An unassisted goal by sophomore Zane Trimmell – his first of the season – was all that Oakwood/Salt Fork needed in a 2-0 shutout at home over Schlarman Academy.
The Comets’ second-half goal was an own goal courtesy of the Hilltoppers.
Oakwood/SF outshot the Hilltoppers, 10-1. Dean had one save.
Oakwood/SF is 10-1-1 overall and 6-1 in Vermilion Valley Conference matches. The Comets return to action on Monday (April 12) in Danville against Schlarman (1-6).
A win will clinch an undisputed conference championship for the Comets.
