Oakwood soccer shuts out Schlarman Academy

By Fred Kroner

After a scoreless first half, Brady Tevebaugh broke loose for a second-half hat trick on Monday (April 12) as Oakwood shut out Schlarman Acdemy 4-0 in Danville.

The shutout was the Comets’ sixth of the season.

Tevebaugh was involved with every second-half goal. He assisted Grant Powell for the team’s second goal.

Sam Howie had two assists and Reef Pacot had one assist for Oakwood, which clinched the program’s first outright Vermilion Valley Conference championship with the victory.

Goalkeeper Aaron Dean earned two saves.

On Tuesday (April 14), Oakwood/Salt Fork concluded the best season in co-op history by posting a 3-2 triumph in Champaign against Judah Christian.

Howie scored twice – both times with assists by Tevebaugh – and the Comets’ other score was courtesy of a Judah own goal.

Oakwood/SF led 2-0 at intermission. Dean finished with five saves and ended the year in a virtual tie for the school record for season goals/against average (1.000).

The mark he tied belongs to Landon Turner, an assistant coach with the Comets.

The two assists by Tevebaugh enabled him to set the program’s single-season record with 14 assists. Ironically, the mark he broke (13) was set by Howie 24 hours earlier.

Prior to 2021, the season assist record was 12 by Dawson LaBaw.

Tevebaugh also finished in a tie with LaBaw for career assists (22).

Tevebaugh previously shattered the season (24) and career (43) records for goals scored.

As a team, Oakwood/Salt Fork established a record for goals in a season (67) as well as goals in a single match (14).

Oakwood/SF ends with a 12-1-1 overall record and 7-1 in league matches. The lone loss on the Comets’ slate was a one-goal setback in its season-opener on March 9 to Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, an opponent they later defeated by a 5-1 score.
