Comets suffer tough loss to Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin

Brevin Wells passed for 142 yards, including a 42-yard scoring strike to Dalton Hobick on Friday (April 16), but Oakwood suffered a 34-8 football loss at home to Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin.
Wells connected on 8 of 18 passes.
The visiting Blue Devils broke a scoreless tie with two second-quarter touchdowns.
“We had some opportunities to punch it in, and couldn’t take advantage,” Oakwood coach Al Craig said.
On four occasions, the Comets penetrated the B-H/R-A red zone but couldn’t convert.
“I’ve tried to think what we could have done differently,” Craig said. “Bismarck is a very good team. I was impressed with how our kids played.”
With baseball season underway, and several athletes participating in both sports, Craig found some creative ways to get football practices scheduled.
“We’ve been doing some morning practices to allow them to play baseball games,” he said.
B-H/R-A contained the Oakwood running game.
“It was tough footing,” Craig said. “Our running game kind of struggled. They made us a little more one-dimensional.
“We’re young up front with three sophomores and a freshman starting (on the line).”
Oakwood (3-2) returns to action at home on Friday (April 26) in its season-finale against Hoopeston Area.
“I’m glad they’re getting all six (allowable) games in,” Craig said.
