Knott picks up two wins for Spartans, distance runners go 1,2,3

Hayden Knott was a double winner for the St. Joseph-Ogden boys’ track and field team on Thursday (April 22) in a dual meet at home against Eureka.
Knott was triumphant in the shot put (54 feet, 3 inches) and the discus (157 feet, 3 inches).
The other two SJ-O winners were Logan Wolfersberger (800 meters, 2:08.65) and Brandon Mattsey (1,600 meters, 4 minutes, 43.62 seconds).
The Spartans went 1-2-3 in both distance races.
Trailing Wolfersberger were runner-up Lukas Hutcherson (2:19.11) and third-place finisher Aden Armstrong (2:20.21).
In the 1,600, Carson Maroon was second (4:48.94), edging Charlie Mabry (4:48.96).
In the discus, SJ-O athletes also secured the top three places. After Knott were runner-up Brock Trimble (122-11) and Evan Schmitz (119-9).
Max Shonkwiler was second in the shot put (39-8).
Overall, Eureka won 13 of 17 events in the non-scored meet.
One Spartan relay placed among the top three. The 1,600 unit of Hutcherson, Armstrong, Holden Jones and Ethan Blackburn was timed in 4:07.91 and took third.
Brady Buss was a two-event runner-up. He was second in both the 200 meters (23.90) and the 400 meters (54.81).
In the 200, teammate Aidan McCorkle was third (24.21).
Tyler Burch was the 100-meter runner-up (11.67) and Braden Clampitt finished second in the 300 hurdles (46.99).
SJ-O returns to action on Tuesday (April 27) at home against Shelbyville.
