Heritage Junior High girls’ track team wins conference championship meet

The Heritage eighth-grade girls’ track and field team emerged as conference champions in the 12-team VCES and Three Rivers Conference meet on Saturday (April 17) at Salt Fork.

Seven squad members either won at individual event or helped a relay to victory and another athlete was the runner-up in two events.

Kiara Jones was the champion in the mile and the 800-meter runs. Jones was the one seventh-grader who participated in the eighth-grade meet.

Gracie Tate was the winner in the discus.

The 800-meter relay was also victorious. Teaming up for the victory were Loran Tate, Madi Wilson, Mykayla Thomas and Alex Tatman.

Also claiming victory was the Heritage 1,600-meter relay foursome of Bailee Lubben, Wilson, Thomas and Tatman.

The Heritage 400-relay captured sixth place. The relay runners were Jones, Gracie Tate, Lubben and Kamryn Soard.

Other top individual placers for the team were Loran Tate (second in the 100 meters, second in the 200 meters and fourth in the long jump), Soard (second in the shot put, second in the triple jump and fourth in the hurdles), Thomas (second in the 400 and fourth in the triple jump), Lubben (fourth in the 400), Gracie Tate (sixth in the shot put), Wilson (third in the 100 and third in the 200) and Tatman (sixth in the long jump).
