St. Joseph girls’ basketball ends season 5-1

St. Joseph won its first five games of the seventh-grade girls’ basketball season before suffering a loss.
Following a layoff for COVID-19 protocol after a first-game win, St. Joseph won at Tolono Unity, 26-16, on Tuesday (April 6). Timera Blackburn-Kelly scored 14 points and Katie Erickson added four points.
On Wednesday (April 7), St. Joseph won at home over Villa Grove, 40-10. Scoring six points apiece were Blackburn-Kelly, Kaytlyn Beyer, Kenzie Atwood, Katie Erickson and Kayla Ostebur.
On Monday (April 12), St. Joseph won at Danville North Ridge, 42-14. The team point total was the single-game high for the season. Erickson hit 14 points and Atwood contributed eight points.
On Saturday (April 17), the team improved to 5-0 following a 27-15 win at home over Monticello. Blackburn-Kelly scored 10 points. Erickson and Addie Brooks each chipped in with seven points.
On Tuesday (April 20), the winning streak ended with a 35-23 loss at home to Cissna Park. Brooks tallied seven points and Blackburn-Kelly netted five points.
On Thursday (April 22), in the season-finale at home, St. Joseph lost to Mahomet, 30-17. Erickson scored a team-high nine points.
For the season, six squad members led – or shared – the team in scoring. Blackburn-Kelly was the leader in four games and hit a team-best 16 points.
Erickson was the leader three times and had a high game of 14 points.
Atwood, Beyer, Brooks and Osterbur were the leaders or co-leaders one time for the eighth-graders.
St. Joseph’s eighth-grade girls’ basketball team ended the year with an 0-7 record.
