McCorkle and Knott win two in four-team meet at SJ-O

St. Joseph-Ogden won eight events on Tuesday (April 27) and finished second in a four-school boys’ track and field meet that the Spartans hosted.
Double winners in individual events for SJ-O were Aidan McCorkle (400 meters, 53.69 seconds and long jump, 19 feet, 5 ½ inches) along with Hayden Knott (shot put, 53-8 and discus, 172-2).
Brady Buss outsprinted all challengers in the 200 meters (23.19), Brandon Mattsey outlasted the field in the 800 meters (2:01.93) and Luke Stegall prevailed in the 1,600 meters (5:12.80).
Spencer Wilson, Mattsey, Carson Maroon and Logan Wolfersberger teamed up to win the 1,600-meter relay (3:45.25).
Stegall was followed by two teammates in the 1,600. The runner-up was Lukas Hutcherson (5:13.69) and the third-placer was Ethan Blackburn (5:17.39).
Knott was followed by teammates in the weight events as SJ-O swept all of the positions at the top.
Max Shonkwiler was second in the shot put (38-11), followed by Evan Schmitz (37-3 ½).
In the discus, Brock Trimble seconded Knott with a toss of 123-4 and Schmitz took third in 122-9.
Trimble also added a second in the triple jump (33-4 ¼).
Another Spartan placing second was Wilson in the 400 meters (56.89). Tyler Burch was third in the 200 meters (23.57).
The SJ-O 400-meter relay captured the second position. Team members were Buss, McCorkle, Burch and Braden Clampitt. Their combined time was 46.08.
In the team chase, Shelbyville totaled 98 points. SJ-O was second (77), Decatur St. Teresa was third (19) and Judah Christian was fourth (11).
