Spartans win four-school meet at SJ-O

The Spartans won 12 events and captured team honors on Tuesday (April 27) in a four-school girls’ track and field meet at home.

SJ-O amassed 118 points. Runner-up Shelbyville had 80 points and was followed by Judah Christian (33 points) and Decatur St. Teresa (15 points).

Atleigh Hamilton was a three-event winner for the Spartans. She took first in the 100 meters (12.65 seconds), the 200 meters (26.06) and the long jump (16-2 ¾ ).

In the sprint races, she beat teammate Payton Carter to the finish line. Carter was second in the 100 (13.29) and the 200 (28.43).

Kaytlyn Baker swept the hurdles races. She was timed in 18.43 seconds in the 100 hurdles and 55.05 seconds in the 300 hurdles.

Macy Reed-Thompson led a 1-2 Spartan finish in the 400 meters. Her time was 1:09.22. Runner-up Jayci Hayes was timed in 1:13.45.

High jumper Abby Behrens (4-11 ¾), pole vaulter Carter (10-6) and shot putter Ashley Eldridge (34-3) were other individual winners for SJ-O.

Ava Knap was the 800-meter runner-up (2:38.92), Angie Chahine was second in the high jump (4-8 ¼), Grace Schmitz was second in the pole vault (10-0), Raegan Crippen was second in the triple jump (28-11 ½) and Alyssa Hamilton was the discus runner-up (84-6).

The  Spartans secured third place in three events: long jumper Hope Rajlich (14-6), triple jumper Yamilka Casanova (28-2) and high jumper Reed-Thompson (4-7 ¾).

Eight different Spartans ran on at least one of the school’s three victorious relays.

The 400-meter foursome of Rajlich, Crippen, Schmitz and Chahine were timed in 53.64 seconds.

The 800-meters grouping of Haleigh Maddock, Crippen, Behrens and Chahine were timed in 1:58.29.

Also winning was the 1,600-meter unit of Rajlich, Schmitz, Malorie Sarnecki and Knap. Their collective time was 4:37.51.
