Oakwood wins doubleheader over Chrisman

By Fred Kroner

Oakwood opened the home portion of its softball season on Monday (May 3) by sweeping a doubleheader from Chrisman, 16-1 and 9-0.

Karsen Rupp registered both pitching victories. She worked three hitless and scoreless innings in the opener, walking no one and striking out six. In the nightcap, Rupp yielded one hit and fanned seven in her first shutout of the season.

Gracie Enos pitched the final two innings of Game 1.

Savannah Nevitt and Tiffany Paris each collected two hits in the first game to spearhead the Comets’ eight-hit attack. Lyrik Talbert’s RBI in the first inning lifted Oakwood into a lead it wouldn’t lose.

In the second game, an eight-run fifth inning put Oakwood over the top.

McCoy was 3-for-3 for the Comets. Teammates with two hits were Nevitt and Rupp.

In the fifth-inning uprising, Alyssa McCoy, Rupp, Talbert, Audrey Schnaus and Madison Stuebe all drove in runs.

On Wednesday (May 5), the Comets were held hitless and dropped a 12-0 decision at home to Westville.

Oakwood (3-2) returns to action on Friday (May 7) at home against Armstrong-Potomac.
