SJ-O softball captures shutout on senior night

Seniors all played a role in a 15-0 St. Joseph-Ogden softball victory on Monday (May 3) over St. Thomas More in a Senior Night game in St. Joseph.
Seniors Sophia Martlage and Audrey Short teamed up to pitch a one-hitter and the team’s second shutout of the year.
Martlage pitched the first 3 2/3 innings. Short struck out the final Saber to end the game after four innings by the 10-run rule.
The team’s third senior, Kaylee Ward, knocked three hits for the game. Kelsey Martlage homered.
On Tuesday (May 4), SJ-O scored a season-high 18 runs and defeated St. Thomas More in Champaign, 18-1.
Alyssa Acton fired a two-hitter and struck out seven batters. Maggie Ward and Kelsey Martlage each drilled two hits for the Spartans.
On Wednesday (May 5), the Spartans suffered a 5-4 loss at Maroa-Forsyth when the Trojans delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Addy Martinie homered for SJ-O. Shayne Immke and Maggie Ward each had two hits for the Spartans.
Maggie Ward took the loss.
SJ-O (9-5) returns to action on Thursday (May 6) at Rantoul.
