Spartan baseball picks up Illini Prairie Conference win

Crayton Burnett pitched a three-hit shutout on Monday (May 3) as St. Joseph-Ogden blanked St. Thomas More, 6-0, in an Illini Prairie Conference baseball game in St Joseph.

The shutout was the second consecutive seven-inning shutout for the University of Illinois recruit, who has issued just one walk in four starts this season while striking out 51 batters in 24 innings. Burnett fanned nine Sabers.

SJ-O managed just three hits, singles by Hayden Brazelton, Tyler Altenbaumer and Zach Martinie.

On Tuesday (May 4), Altenbaumer, Andrew Beyers and Burnett all contributed two hits as the Spartans registered an 11-2 win over St. Thomas More in Champaign.

SJ-O scored six runs before the Sabers batted for the first time.

Isaiah Immke and Keaton Nolan both drove in two runs for the Spartans.

SJ-O stole 10 bases, including two apiece by Beyers, Coby Miller and Ty Pence. Miller scored three runs.

Altenbaumer and Pence combined on a four-hitter. Altenbaumer was touched for three hits in five innings. He walked one and struck out seven.

Pence pitched two innings in his fourth straight scoreless outing.

On Wednesday (May 5), Maroa-Forsyth pushed across two runs in the top of the seventh inning against Pence and hung on for a 6-5 victory in St. Joseph.

Pence was 3-for-4 and knocked in two runs. Martinie had two hits and two RBI.

SJ-O (12-2) returns to action on Thursday (May 6) at Rantoul.
