Spartan softball wins 6 in six days

Shayne Immke belted her team-leading fourth home run on Thursday (May 5) as the St. Joseph-Ogden softball team registered a 16-4 Illini Prairie Conference victory at Rantoul.
Immke’s homer was an inside-the-park job. Immke knocked in three runs.
Winning pitcher Alyssa Acton also lifted a home run out of Wabash Park. Acton ended with three hits and drove in four runs.
She also pitched six innings to improve her season record to 4-1 with her fourth consecutive win.
SJ-O’s Kelsey Martlage contributed three hits.
On Friday (May 7), Maggie Ward pitched a complete game and earned the win as the Spartans collected a 9-5 win in Danville. The game concluded a streak of four road games in four days for SJ-O.
Kelsey Martlage was 4-for-4 and Kaylee Ward was 3-3 for the Spartans.
On Saturday (May 8), SJ-O went undefeated in its own three-school round-robin event.
The Spartans started the day by edging Salt Fork, 7-6, to improve to 2-2 in one-run games this season.
Acton pitched a complete game and was backed by an offense that included a home run from Kennedy Hudson, who also stole four bases and scored two runs. Addy Martinie totaled two hits.
In the team’s second game of the day, they dropped Meridian 15-9. Immke was 4-for-5. Five teammates produced at least two hits: Acton, Martlage, Martinie, Kaylee Ward and Maggie Ward.
Martinie socked a home run.
Sophia Martlage and Maggie Ward shared the pitching duties. Ward earned her fifth win.
SJ-O (13-5) returns to action on Monday (May 10) at home against Rantoul. Saturday’s games capped a week where the Spartans played for six consecutive days and compiled 6-1 record in that period.
