Wyant pitches another no-hitter

Senior Mason Wyant put together his second consecutive no-hitter on Thursday (May 5) at home against Lincoln Prairie Conference foe Tri-County.
Wyant pitched all five innings of 10-0 Villa Grove/Heritage triumph, extending his hitless streak to nine innings in a row. He struck out six Tri-County batters and walked two.
Ryan Cheatham had two hits for the Blue Devils. Noah Davison and Wyant each scored two runs. Jalen Southord drove in two runs and Jairus Kiser swiped three bases, giving him five in his past two games.
At the plate, Wyant was 1-for-1 (with a double) and walked twice on three appearances.
On Saturday, May 8, VG/Heritage lost a doubleheader at Paris, 17-1 and 3-2.
Carson Howard drove in runs for the Hawks in each game.
VG/Heritage was limited to one hit in the opener and two in the nightcap, all singles. Nick Coffin had the first-game hit and stole a base in each game. Howard collected both of the second-game hits and also swiped one base.
For the day, the team’s runs were scored by Cheatham, Coffin and Kiser.
The top VG/Heritage pitching performance was by Davison in the second game. He worked 2 2/3 innings of scoreless and hitless relief in Game 2. He walked one and struck out one.
Villa Grove/Heritage (6-3) returns to action on Tuesday (May 11) at Neoga.
