Chadwick finishes first in 1600-meter at IESA Class 2A sectional track and field meet

The Villa Grove Blue Devils had an individual champion and three runner-up performances in the Saturday (May 8) IESA Class 2A boys’ eighth-grade sectional track and field meet at Tuscola.
Lukas Chadwick was the 1,600-meter champion. His time of 5 minutes, 19.67 seconds provided him with a 3.63-second victory margin.
Kyle Krause was a two-event runner-up. He was second in both the shot put (38 feet, 8 inches) and the discus (104 feet, 4 inches).
Also finishing second for Villa Grove was Kurt Zimmerman in the 800 meters (2:28.22).
The Blue Devils’ Ryan Schlueter turned in two top-10 finishes. He was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (21.26 seconds) and 10th in the 100 meters (14.18 seconds).
Villa Grove’s Chase White was ninth in the 1,600 meters (6:15.01).
Two Blue Devil relays also fared well.
The 800-meter unit of Jackson Gilles, White, Zimmerman and Shadwick was fourth (2:08.34).
The 1,600-meter foursome of Zimmerman, Gilles, White and Zimmerman was timed in 5:00.81 and registered a sixth-place finish.
In the team chase, Casey-Westfield was first (106 points), followed by Effingham St. Anthony (83 points) and Tuscola (82 points). Villa Grove was fifth with 43 points.
In the IESA boys’ seventh-grade sectional meet, all eight of the Villa Grove points came in the field events.
Thomas Vandeventer took third in the discus (83 feet, 7 inches) and fifth in the shot put (28 feet, 1 inch).
Teammate Jace Bennett was 10th in the shot put (25 feet, 1 ½ inches).
Tuscola was the meet champion with 103 points. Casey-Westfield (76 ½ points) was second. Villa Grove finished in 10th place.
