PV-O girls place second at Catlin Sectional

The Prairieview Ogden eighth-grade girls’ track and field team finished in second place in the eight-school Catlin Class 1A IESA sectional meet on Saturday (May 8).

Heritage was the meet champion with 138 points. PVO had 75 points and third-place Philo St. Thomas ended with 44 points.

PVO athletes won two events and secured runner-up finishes in four events.

Lexi Wirth was the 100-meter hurdles champion (20.10 seconds).

Wirth also ran on the winning 400-meter relay with Lauren Dewese, Grace Osterbur and Ally Schmit. Their time was 1:00.10 and their margin of victory was 1.59 seconds.

Paige Schmidt earned two second-place finishes: shot put (20 feet, 2 ½ inches) and discus (58 feet, 9 inches).

Wirth also turned in two runner-up performances: 100 meters (14,32 seconds) and long jump (13 feet).

The Mustangs’ 1,600-meter relay unit took third in 5:29.85. Sharing the baton were Lyla Frerichs, Audra Marschke, Osterbur and Schmitz.

Individually, Merial Yeager was third in the discus (51 feet, 8 inches), Dewese was fourth in the long jump (11 feet, 5 inches) and Osterbur was fourth in the 1,600 meters (6:44.40).

Other top 10 placers for PVO were: Dewese (fifth in the 200 meters, 33.08 seconds), Marschke (sixth in the 400 meters, 1:22.89), Yeager (seventh in the 200 meters, 36.88 seconds), Frerichs (seventh in the 100 hurdles, 22.43 seconds) and  Frerichs (seventh in the 400 meters, 1:25.42).

In all, PVO scored in 10 of 13 total events and had double placers in five events.

In the IESA Catlin Class 1A girls’ seventh-grade sectional, PVO ended eighth with 25 points.

The meet champion was Champaign Next Generation with 66 points. Champaign Holy Cross was second with 53 points. PVO totaled 25 points.

The Mustangs’ 400-meter relay emerged as the sectional champions after clocking a final time of 1:07.44. The foursome won by 8.17 seconds.

The relay runners were Olivia Berlatsky, Anna Hammond, Taylor Maddock and Ainsley Rhoton.

Ally Schmitz finished second in the discus (55 feet, 4 inches) and Berlatsky was third in the 100 hurdles (22.48 seconds).

Two Mustangs placed in the long jump. Rhoton was sixth (10 feet, 10 ¼ inches) and Hammond was eighth (9 feet, 10 inches).

Schmitz was seventh in the 100 meters (16.09 seconds) and Maddock placed ninth in the 200 meters (34.59 seconds).
