PV-O takes third at Class 1A IESA sectional meet

Led by the performance of three athletes, Prairieview Ogden’s eighth-grade boys’ track and field team finished in third place in the nine-school Catlin Class 1A IESA sectional meet on Saturday (May 8).

Grant Smith posted a pair of wins and a pair of second-place finishes.

Smith was victorious in the high jump (5 feet, 1 inch) and the long jump (14 feet, 9 ½ inches). He took second in both sprint races: 100 meters (13.05 seconds) and 200 meters (1:02.71).

Landon Brown won the shot put (36 feet, 7 ¼ inches) and was third in the discus (87 feet, 2 inches).

In the same events, Brodie Harms placed fifth in the discus (83 feet, 5 inches) and sixth in the shot put (27 feet, 8 ½ inches).

In the boys’ seventh-grade IESA Catlin Sectional, PVO finished ninth with six points.

The Mustangs’ top finisher was their 1,600-meter relay. The foursome of Donaven Taylor, Adam Marschke, Vance McComas and Garrett Loschen was fourth in 5:30.63.

The PVO 400-meter relay foursome was fifth. The runners were Loschen, McComas, Marschke and Taylor. Their time was 1:04.30.

Individually, three Mustangs earned top 10 finishes.

Loschen was seventh in the 110-meter hurdles (22.47 seconds) and eighth in the 400 meters (1:16.51).

McComas was seventh in the shot put (24 feet) and ninth in the 400 meters (1:18.35).

Taylor was ninth in both the 110 hurdles (23.38) and the 800 meters (3:08.11).
