Nick Coffin’s first-inning single was the lone hit by the Hawks on Monday (May 17) in a 7-1 loss at home to Okaw Valley.
Coffin also scored the team’s lone run. VG/Heritage drew six walks, including two by Sam Bender.
Mason Wyant struck out five batters in five innings and absorbed the loss. Noah Davison fanned five in two innings, his fourth consecutive scoreless appearance.
On Wednesday (May 19) at Argenta, Davison clubbed a home run and Luke Zimmerman added two hits and three RBI in an 8-4 VG/Heritage triumph. Davison scored two runs.
The win snapped a six-game losing streak. The Blue Devils tallied four first-inning runs and never trailed.
Zimmerman, Coffin and Tyler Wilson all belted doubles.
Carson Howard (3-1) earned the pitching win. He worked 3 1/3 innings, walking two and striking out one. He was followed to the mound by Dylan Ploense and Bender. Bender worked a scoreless seventh inning.
The Hawks (7-7) return to action on Saturday (May 22) at home against Decatur Lutheran.
