Denius and Morris pick-up individual wins at Salt Fork

Senior Aaliyah Denius and sophomore Allie Morris won individual events for the Oakwood girls’ track and field team in a six-school meet on Tuesday (May 18) at Salt Fork.
Denius was dominant in the 400 meters. She registered a winning time of 1 minute, 7.10 seconds.
Morris set the pace in the 1,600, outracing all competitors. Her time was 5:42.14.
Teammate Nikita Taylor was a placer in three individual events along with one relay.
Taylor was second in the long jump (14 feet, 6 inches). She was fourth in the 200 meters (30.44 seconds) and sixth in the 100 meters (14.67 seconds).
She also anchored the fourth-place 400-meter relay. Denius, Jalynn Bugaj and Dani Boleda joined Taylor on the relay. Their time was 57.24 seconds.
The Comets captured third place in two other relays.
The 800-meter relay consisted of Kalie Tison, Bugaj, Yella Layden and Morris. Their time was 2:10.06.
The 1,600-meter relay featured Tison, Bugaj, Morris and Denius. They clocked a final time of 4:59.01.
The other Oakwood placers were Layden (sixth in the 300 hurdles, 1:03.05) and Tison (fifth in the discus, 71 feet, 7 inches).
Salt Fork won the meet, accumulating 142 points. Oakwood was fifth with 52 points.
The Comets return to action on Tuesday (May 25) in the Vermilion Valley Conference meet, at Salt Fork.
