Oakwood baseball tops Hoopeston and Centennial

Eight players drove in runs on Thursday (May 27) as the Comets built an 8-1 lead in the fifth inning before holding on at home for an 8-7 victory over Hoopeston Area.
Isaiah Ruch (4-0) pitched five innings of one-hit ball, allowing no earned runs, walking two and striking out nine. Travis Goodner and Dylan Bensyl combined to work the last two innings.
Ruch and Dalton Hobick each slapped three hits. Koby Fletcher and Matthew Miller had two hits apiece. Jacob Spears and Cayden Wells scored two runs.
On Friday (May 28), Ruch slammed two home runs and knocked in a season-high five runs as Oakwood topped Centennial 7-4 at home.
Hobick ended with three hits and Miller contributed two hits.
Travis Tiernan picked up his third successive win, pitching five innings, walking one and striking out six. Bensyl worked the last two innings.
Oakwood (10-6) returns to action on Monday (May 24) at home against Salt Fork.
