Altenbaumer picks up shutout over Pontiac

The Spartans staked Tyler Altenbaumer to a six-run lead before he took the mound on Monday at Pontiac and he fired a two-hit shutout as SJ-O prevailed, 10-0, in a five-inning baseball game.

Altenbaumer struck out 10 and walked no one.

Isaiah Immke and Coby Miller each laced two hits for SJ-O. Immke knocked in three runs. Keaton Nolan delivered two RBI as did Zach Martinie. Miller, Crayton Burnett and Andrew Beyers all scored two runs.

On Tuesday (May 25), Burnett continued his masterful senior season on the mound, tossing a two-hit, six-inning shutout at Prairie Central in the Spartans’ 15-0 triumph.

Burnett walked no one and struck out 14. For the season, he has allowed 21 hits and three walks in 48 2/3 innings while striking out 102 batters. He is 8-0 with five shutouts.

He was backed by an offense that featured two hits apiece from Coby Miller, Altenbaumer, Pence and Brazelton.

Miller slugged a home run and a double and drove in four runs. Pence and Jackson Rydell had two RBI apiece.

Miller, Beyers, Altenbaumer and Xander Rieches all scored two runs.

SJ-O (26-2) has a 14-game winning streak and returns to action on Thursday (May 27), weather permitting, at home against Prairie Central.
