Ruch helps Oakwood pick up win over Salt Fork

Senior Isaiah Ruch went 4-for-4 – including a triple and two home runs – and drove in eight runs on Monday (May 24) as Oakwood rallied to defeat Salt Fork 18-13 in a Vermilion Valley Conference baseball game at home.
Ruch has posted two consecutive two-home run games, driving in 13 runs in those games while going 6-for-7 at the plate.
Salt Fork led 10-6 after three innings.
Dylan Bensyl, Koby Fletcher and Dalton Hobick all stroked two hits.
Hobick picked up the pitching win with 2 1/3 innings of relief work. He allowed one earned run, walked no one and recorded one strikeout.
Bensyl, Hobick and Grant Powell all contributed two RBI. Jacob Spears walked on all four plate appearances and scored four runs. He also stole three bases.
On Wednesday (May 26), Oakwood dropped a 6-3 decision at home to Milford.
Hobick and Ruch pounded two hits apiece for the Comets. Cayden Wells swiped two bases and knocked in two runs and Bensyl tallied two runs.
Ruch pitched the first five innings and suffered his first loss of the year. He struck out seven and walked three in his mound stint.
Oakwood (11-7) is scheduled to return to action on Thursday (May 27) at Braidwood Reed Custer. The Comets have won three games in a row and six of their last seven.
