Buesing and Burwell lead Blue Devils at Lincoln Prairie Conference meet

Sophomore Emma Buesing and senior Madison Burwell were individual winners for Villa Grove/Heritage on Thursday (May 27) in the Lincoln Prairie Conference girls’ track and field meet at Bethany.
Buesing topped the field in the 3,200-meter race. Her winning time was 14 minutes, 33.29 seconds.
Burwell re-broke her own school record in the discus, tossing the implement 113 feet, 8 inches.
The other VG/Heritage win came in the 3,200-meter relay, which featured Buesing, Madison Logan, Hailey Stutz and Kyleigh Price. Their cumulative time was 11:50.32.
Ava Vollmer was the runner-up in the shot put (33 feet, 1 inch).
Buesing also placed third in the 1,600 meters (6:30.24) and was part of the fifth-place 1,600-meter relay. Teammates who joined her on the relay were Molly Little, Stutz and Logan. Their time was 5:01.29.
Burwell took eighth in the high jump (4 feet, 3 inches) and ran on two relays.
The 800-meter relay foursome of Little, Burwell, Chloe Reardon and Kirsten Foreman was fourth in 2:03.53.
Burwell ran the leadoff leg on the sixth-place 400-meter relay. She was followed by Foreman, Stutz and Reardon. Their combined time was 57.20 seconds.
The Blue Devils had four other top-10 placers in the field events.
Foreman captured sixth in the long jump (13 feet, 6 inches), Adena Paul was eighth in the shot put (28 feet, 1 inch), Vollmer was ninth in the discus (77 feet, 8 inches) and Reardon was ninth in the long jump (13 feet).
Logan, Price and Kenzie Cardiff were top-10 placers in two running events.
Price ran third in the 3,200 meters (16:30.02) and ninth in the 800 meters (3:17.67).
Logan was seventh in the 800 meters (3:07.48) and 10th in the 400 meters (1:21.55).
Cardiff was seventh in the 300-meter hurdles (1:02.60) and ninth in the 100-meter hurdles (22.55 seconds).
Other top 10 runners for VG/Heritage were Stutz (fifth in the 400 meters, 1:08.38), Foreman (ninth in the 100 meters, 15.02 seconds) and Reardon (10th in the 100 meters, 15.25 seconds).
In the team chase, Okaw Valley was the winner, totaling 103 points. Cerro Gordo/Bement was second with 99 ½ points. Villa Grove/Heritage was fourth in the 11-school field with 61 points.
The Blue Devils return to action on Friday (June 4) in the Tuscola Class 1A sectional.
