Price named shot put champion at Lincoln Prairie Conference meet

Junior Daelin Price was the shot put champion for Villa Grove/Heritage on Thursday (May 27) in the Lincoln Prairie Conference boys’ track and field meet at Bethany.

Price’s top toss was 45 feet, 8 inches. He took fifth in the discus (115 feet, 5 inches).

Teammate Liam Barr was also a two-event top-10 finisher in field events. Barr was fifth in the triple jump (35 feet, 2 inches) and seventh in the long jump (18 feet, 6 inches).

Layne Rund copped a third-place finish in the high jump (5 feet, 6 inches) and Elijah Kiesel was seventh in the triple jump (34 feet, 4 inches).

Two VG/Heritage relays finished in the runner-up position.

The 800-meter foursome of Barr, Robert Morgan, Braydon Dowler and Gunner Cline was second in 1:39.40.

The 1,600-meter unit of Konner Pearman, Zach Ruwe, Rowan Denmark-Collins and Rund finished second in 3:53.86.

The 3,200-meter relay entry of Lukas Carey, Denmark-Collins, Ruwe and Austin Zoch placed third in 9:56.68.

The 400-meter relay unit of Cline, Mason Carter, Rund and Dowler ended fourth in 47.67 seconds.

Individually, Dowler was second in the 110-meter high hurdles (19.65 seconds).

Ruwe, who raced nearly 4 miles during the meet, finished third in the 1,600 meters (5:02.34) and fourth in the 3,200 meters (11:00.09).

Denmark-Collins added a fifth-place performance in the 800 meters (2:19.53) and an eighth-place effort in the 1,600 meters (5:21.81).

Other Blue Devils who secured top-10 finishes in running events were: Cline (fifth in the 100 meters, 12.40 seconds), Dowler (sixth in the 200 meters, 25.65 seconds), Rund (sixth in the 400 meters, 57.57 seconds), Pearman (seventh in the 400 meters, 57.69 seconds), Carter (eighth in the 100 meters, 12.70 seconds) and Carey (10th in the 800 meters, 2:27.89).

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond amassed 179 points to run away with the team title. Runner-up Arcola had 100 points and third-place Villa-Grove/Heritage totaled 72 points.

The Blue Devils return to action on Friday (June 11) in the Tuscola Class 1A sectional.
