Five Comets place in top-ten at St. Joseph-Ogden Sectional

Oakwood’s Allie Morris was a near-miss on Wednesday in her effort to qualify for the Class 1A girls’ track and field state meet.
She placed third individually in the 1,600 meters at the St. Joseph-Ogden Sectional. Her time of 5 minutes, 37.86 seconds was less than a second over the pre-set qualifying standard.
The Comets had four other individual top-10 placers at the sectional and also had three relays meet that standard.
Individually, Nikita Taylor was fourth in the long jump (15 feet, 1 inch) and sixth in the 200 meters (29.70 seconds), Yelka Layden was ninth in the 300-meter hurdles (56.88 seconds) and Luci Morris was 10th in the long jump (12 feet, 7 inches).
The school’s top-placing relay was the 800-meter unit. Kalie Tison, Luci Morris, Dani Boleda and Taylor were timed in 2:05.77 and finished sixth.
The 400-meter relay ended in eighth. Sharing the baton were Tison, Layden, Savannah Cunningham and Haley Carlton. Their combined time was 57.50 seconds.
The Comets’ 1,600-meter relay stopped the clock in 5:10.16. The featured group was Tison, Cassie Fugate, Allie Morris and Luci Morris.
