Immke adds two more home runs, Chillicothe tops Spartans
By Fred Kroner
Shayne Immke continued her slugging exploits on Monday (May 31), but the St. Joseph-Ogden softball team was edged by Chillicothe IVC 5-4 in a game at St. Joseph.
Immke belted two home runs and a triple for the Spartans and is the third SJ-O player besides Bailey Dowling (2020 graduate) and Elizabeth Everingham (2012 graduate) to sock at least 15 home runs in one season. Dowling achieved the feat three years in a row, each time eclipsing the 20-home run mark.
A sophomore, Immke has 16 homers, 15 during the month of May.
Addy Martinie also had three hits against the Grey Ghosts while Kaylee Ward and Peyton Jones collected two hits apiece.
Maggie Ward suffered the loss.
On Tuesday (June 1), the Spartans avenged their Monday loss, defeating IVC 3-1 in Chillicothe in their regular-season finale.
Ward stymied the Grey Ghost on five hits, striking out six, in her seven-inning complete game.
Kennedy Hudson had an RBI double in the fifth inning and was also hit by a pitch for the 11th time this season.
Immke again provided a spark on offense, going 4-for-4, stealing five bases and scoring two runs.
SJ-O (26-7) returns to action on Thursday (June 3) in a Class 2A regional semifinal game against seventh-seeded Georgetown-Ridge Farm, which ousted 10th-seeded Cerro Gordo/Bement 6-1 on Wednesday (June 2). SJ-O is the No. 2 seed.
