Oakwood softball season ends with loss to Clinton

The Comets were held hitless by Mackenzie Russell on Monday (May 31) and dropped a 10-0 Vermilion Valley Conference loss at Salt Fork.
Russell walked one and stuck out 10 in the five-inning game.
Oakwood pitcher Karsen Rupp walked one and fanned three in four innings.
On Wednesday (June 2), eighth-seeded Oakwood made an exit from postseason play with a 9-6 Class 2A regional semifinal loss at Muncie against ninth-seeded Clinton.
In her final prep game, senior Alaina Rothwell was 4-for-4, including a two-run home run.
Rupp, Tiffany Paris and Savannah Nevitt all swatted at least two hits. Overall, Oakwood had 14 hits.
One of Paris’ hits was her team-leading fourth home run of the spring.
Rupp pitched a complete game, walking no one and striking out four.
The Comets end the season with a 4-11 overall record. The team averaged 7.2 runs per game for the season, with a high game of 23 runs against Heritage.
Rupp pitched one shutout for the season. Oakwood was shut out in three games.
The team’s other seniors, besides Rothwell were Paris and Lyrik Talbert.
