Madison Burwell places ninth at IHSA Class 1A girls’ state track and field meet

Senior Madison Burwell capped her high school career on Thursday (June 10) by placing ninth in the IHSA Class 1A girls’ state track and field meet in the discus for Villa Grove/Heritage.
Burwell was seeded 13th in the event, based on sectional performances, but secured her first high school state medal by re-breaking her school record.
Her top fling at state was 115 feet, 4 inches.
Burwell is the first placer for Villa Grove, Heritage or the co-op since 2002.
The program also had one relay competing at state.
The 3,200-meter relay was seeded 25th and placed 25th in 11 minutes, 54.40 seconds.
The relay runners were Kyleigh Price, Madison Logan, Hailey Stutz and Emma Buesing.
Burwell’s placement earned VG/Heritage one team point and enabled the program to finish in a tie for 62nd at state. In all, 70 schools scored points at the Class 1A state finals.
