Spartans move on to Decatur St. Teresa Sectional

Three of the state’s top-seven ranked girls’ Class 1A cross-country teams battled one another on Saturday (Oct. 23) in the Chrisman Sectional.
They secured the top three team places in a seven-team field to advance to the sectional.
Third-ranked Tolono Unity garnered the team crown, compiling a final score of 29 points. Seventh-ranked Urbana Uni High was the runner-up with 55 points and fifth-ranked St. Joseph-Ogden claimed the No. 3 spot, with a team composite of 72 points.

Freshman Savanna Franzen led SJ-O. She placed fourth in a 58-runner field. Franzen’s 3-mile time was 19 minutes and 3 seconds.
The Spartans’ other scoring runners were: senior Ava Knap (12th in 19:48.2), senior Kailyn Ingram (16th in 20:11.5), sophomore Chloe Burkhalter (24th in 20:54.2) and senior Addie Allen (28th in 21:31.9).
Junior Kaytlyn Baker (39th in 22:50.8) was the other SJ-O participant.
SJ-O returns to action on Saturday (Oct 30) in the Decatur St. Teresa Sectional at Hickory Point Golf Club.
