SJO volleyball season comes to an end

St. Joseph-Ogden’s 14-match winning streak came to an end on Monday (Nov. 1) with a three-set loss to Pleasant Plains in a Class 2A sectional volleyball semifinal match.
The Spartans won the first set, 25-17, before dropping the next two sets, 25-20, 25-21, to an opponent that wound up winning the sectional championship on Wednesday (Nov. 3).
Kennedi Burnett and Addie Roesch each smashed 15 kills. Shayne Immke landed six kills and Taylor Wells contributed four kills. Rachel Divan posted five blocks.
Burnett finished with a double-double, adding 12 digs. Hannah Fox had a team-high 15 digs. Becca Steinbach totaled 37 assists to go with eight digs.
The Spartans’ seniors were Madison Atwood, Kennedi Burnett, Deanna Cummins, Ashley Eldridge, Hannah Fox, Becca Steinbach, Mackenzie Trame and Taylor Wells.
Burnett was the team-leader for the season in three categories. She collected 272 kills, 272 digs and 92 service aces.
Other kill leaders were Roesch (158) and Immke (141).
Other leaders in aces were Roesch (25) and Fox (23).
Other digs leaders were Fox (251) and Steinbach (174).
Steinbach doled out a team-high 648 assists, followed by Fox (50) and Taylor Hug (30).
The leaders in blocks were Divan (46), Immke (25) and Eldridge (22).
SJ-O ends the season with a 27-5 overall record. Pleasant Plains is 32-5 heading into the super-sectional.
