Panthers on 12-game win streak

The St. Joseph eighth-grade girls’ basketball team won its 12th consecutive game on Tuesday (Nov. 9), posting a 33-6 victory at Bismarck.
Katie Ericksen reached a season-high with 13 points. She hit six of her points in the opening quarter.
The Panthers allowed Bismarck just two points after the first quarter.
Totaling four points apiece in the game were Kenzie Atwood, Tamara Blackburn-Kelley, Addie Brooks and Kayla Osterbur. Kaitlyn Beyers and Ashlynn Miller both contributed two points.
On Monday (Nov. 8), the Panthers scored a 36-6 victory at Villa Grove.
Ericksen led the way with 10 points. Atwood seconded her with six points.
Tossing in four points apiece were Blackburn-Kelley, Beyers and Lexi Lackey. Chipping in with two points apiece – as all nine squad members hit the scoring column – were Brooks, Sophia Kasper, Miller and Osterbur.
On Thursday (Nov. 4), St. Joseph topped Tolono Unity at home, 24-14.
Ericksen scored 12 points to pace the Panthers. Brooks contributed six points. Scoring two points apiece were Atwood, Blackburn-Kelley and Osterbur.
The eighth-graders are 15-1 overall.
St. Joseph’s seventh-grade team limited Villa Grove to one field goal en route to a 27-5 triumph on Monday (Nov. 8).
Abigail Crider (10 points) and Maggie Hewkin (five points) each hit a season-high for points scored and combined to make 5-of-5 free throws.
Hayden Dahl tallied six points. Brynn Ikemire, Hadley McDonald and Adeine Stevens each contributed two points.
On Tuesday (Nov. 9), the points were hard to come by as the seventh-graders dropped a 10-8 decision at Bismarck. Dahl netted two three-point shots to account for her six points. Kiah Riesel scored the other two points.
On Thursday (Nov. 4), the Panthers’ seventh-grade team was within two points at halftime before falling to Tolono Unity, 35-22. Unity’s halftime lead was 13-11.
Dahl led St. Joseph with seven points. Riesel chipped in with six points. Stevens scored four points. Crider added three points and Hewkin tallied two points.
The seventh-graders are 5-11.
St. Joseph returns to action on Saturday (Nov. 13) at home against Hoopeston Area.
