Mustangs continue to show strength on the court

The Prairieview Ogden Junior High boys’ basketball teams are off to a hot start.

The eighth-graders have a 6-1 overall record – with all of its games being played away from home – after placing third in the Danville Schlarman Topper Classic. PVO won two of its three games and then rolled up three more wins to start its regular-season schedule.

Four different players have led the team in scoring through six games.

At Schlarman, PVO overpowered Milford, 43-2, lost to Schlarman Academy, 38-22, and beat Champaign Holy Cross 50-19.

Parker Fitch tallied 10 points against Milford. Coy Hayes and  Kodey McKinney each hit nine points. Kaden Wedig added eight points, Graham Ray scored five and Dalton York chipped in with two points.

Against Schlarman, Ray’s seven points were a team-high. Hayes had four points and Fitch three. Scoring two points apiece were John Couture, Vance McComas, McKinney and Wedig.

Against Holy Cross, Hayes rippled the nets for 19 points. McKinney netted nine and Fitch contributed six points. York ended with five points. Couture and Wedig each added four points and Ray finished with three points.

On Monday (Nov. 8), the eighth-graders topped Blue Ridge, 42-10, in Farmer City.

Fitch was the top point-maker with 18. McKinney hit nine, Hayes had six and Ray added five. Couture and Wedig each tallied two points.

On Tuesday (Nov. 9), the Mustangs ran past Fisher, 50-10.

McKinney produced 15 points and Fitch seconded him with 12 points. Hayes hit seven points, McComas added five and Couture contributed four points. Ray made three points while Ethan Sanders and Wedig both finished with two points.

On Thursday (Nov. 11), PVO handled Chrisman, 43-13, behind the double-digit scoring efforts of three players. McKinney tossed in 14 points. Fitch and Hayes each totaled 10 points. Ray had five points. Chipping in with two points apiece were McComas and Sanders.

On Monday (Nov. 15), the eighth-graders overpowered Hoopeston Area, 65-11.

Hayes and McKinney each netted 16 points. Couture and Fitch landed 12 points apiece as four players scored in double figures. Finishing with two points apiece were McComas, Wedig and York.

The PVO seventh-grade team didn’t have a preseason tournament, but are off to a 4-0 start with three double-figure victories. 

The Mustangs knocked off Blue Ridge, 37-8, Fisher, 41-13, Chrisman, 46-14, and Hoopeston Area, 44-22.

Couture and Wedig have reached double figures in all four games.

Couture had 18 vs. Blue Ridge, 12 vs. Fisher, 16 against Chrisman and 14 at Hoopeston. In those same three games, Wedig tallied 11 points, 13 points, 10 points and a game-high 17 points.

Against Blue Ridge, York finished with four points. Garrett Loschen and Adam Marschke each totaled two points.

Against Fisher, York made five points. Loschen and Alex Vaughn were each at four points, and Aiden Hundley tossed in three points.

Against Chrisman, York made seven points, Vaughn managed six points, Marschke ended with five and Loschen had two points.

Against Hoopeston, York tallied seven points. Chipping in with two points apiece were Mason Ramm, Donovan Taylor and Vaughn.

The PVO boys’ teams return to action on Thursday (Nov. 18) at Bismarck-Henning.
