Spartans kick off season with two wins in Turkey Tournament Invitational
St. Joseph-Ogden had different scoring leaders as it opened the girls’ basketball season with wins on consecutive nights in the Spartans’ own Turkey Tournament Invitational.
SJ-O opened with a 55-8 conquest of Urbana on Monday (Nov. 15) and followed up by rallying late to defeat Tri-County, 43-34, on Tuesday (Nov. 16).
Ashlynn Lannert hit 11 points and Payton Jacob netted 10 points in the season-opener. Taylor Wells added eight points and Hallie Harms finished with seven points.
Urbana managed just one field goal in the game.
On Tuesday, the Spartans used a 12-2 fourth-quarter spurt to get past the Titans.
Ella Armstrong led SJ-O with 15 points, including a 5-for-5 performance from the free-throw line. Armstrong dropped in two three-point shots.
Peyton Jones scored 10 points. Adding five points apiece were Addison Frick and Alyssa Hamilton.
SJ-O (2-0) returns to action on Thursday (Nov. 18) against Centennial in the final night of the tourney.
