Comets sweep Tri-County Tournament

The Oakwood boys’ basketball team made a clean sweep of opponents in the Tri-County Tournament, finishing the event with a 5-0 record after winning twice on Friday (Nov 26).
With three players scoring in double figures, the Comets dispatched Judah Christian, 70-35, and then overpowered Tri-County 64-28.
Tournament MVP Josh Young scored in double figures in all five games, netting 13 points against Judah and 12 against Tri-County. In the five tourney games, Young tallied 87 points.
Oakwood’s other all-tournament selection, Grant Powell, recorded 66 points for the five games. He had seven against Judah and 10 against Tri-County.
Dalton Hobick led the way with 17 points against Tri-County. He made 10 points against Judah. Josh Ruch also reached double figures in both of the Friday games, sinking 10 points against Judah and 12 against the Titans.
He drained four three-pointers for the day. Griffin Trees also hit treys in both of the Friday games.
On Wednesday (Nov. 24), Oakwood also posted two wins, topping Villa Grove, 63-22, and Martinsville, 78-53.
Young (25 points) and Powell (23 points) teamed up for 48 points against Martinsville. Ruch generated 10 points.
Against Villa Grove, Powell hit for 17 points and Young registered 15 points. Oakwood netted 26 first-quarter points, nine by Powell, eight by Young and seven by Hobick.
Against Martinsville, Powell, Ruch and Trees all notched first-quarter three-pointers to spark an 18-point opening frame.
The Comets sealed the win by connecting on 16 of 20 fourth-quarter free throws, including 7-of-8 by Ruch and 6-of-8 by Powell.
Oakwood (5-1 overall) returns to action on Tuesday (Nov. 30) in the 5 p.m. game of the Toyota of Danville Classic at St. Joseph-Ogden against Schlarman Academy.
