Comets’ energy poses challenge for Spartans

With three starters scoring in double figures, Oakwood’s boys’ basketball team stayed with St. Joseph-Ogden throughout the duration of a Wednesday (Dec. 1) game in the Toyota of Danville Classic in the Spartans gym. SJ-O prevailed, 62-57.
Oakwood led, 11-8, after one quarter and was within two points at halftime and after three quarters.
Josh Young hit a team-high 23 points for the Comets. Dalton Hobick scored 19 points and teammate Grant Powell hit for 11 points.
On Tuesday (Nov. 30), Young scored 17 points and Josh Ruch hit five of his eight points in the final period as the Comets broke from a 36-36 tie to beat Schlarman Academy, 50-41, in a first-round tournament game.
Hobick added nine points and Powell contributed eight points.
Oakwood (6-2) returns to action on Thursday (Dec. 2) against Cissna Park.
