Spartans eye spot in championship game of Classic Tournament
Ty Pence hit 14 of his game-high 34 points in the fourth quarter on Wednesday (Dec. 1) as St. Joseph-Ogden edged Oakwood, 62-57, in a second-round game in the Toyota of Danville Classic in the Spartans’ gym.
SJ-O trailed, 11-8 after one quarter and only managed two-point leads (27-25 and 45-43) at halftime and after three periods.
Pence iced the victory by hitting two free throws in the final 10 seconds.
Evan Ingram contributed 16 points for the Spartans. Adding four points apiece were Logan Smith, Coy Taylor and Brock Trimble.
On Tuesday (Nov 30), Pence scored 14 of his game-high 29 points in the opening quarter, leading SJ-O past Cissna Park, 78-55, in a first-round tournament game.
Ingram tallied 14 points, Trimble netted 11 points – including three first-half three-pointers – and Smith added 10 points.
SJ-O led, 21-9, after one quarter.
SJ-O (3-0) returns to action on Friday (Dec. 3) against Danville Schlarman Academy. A win would move SJ-O into the Saturday (Dec. 4) 5:30 p.m. championship game.
