Comets take third at Toyota of Danville Classic

Balanced scoring and a tough first-half defense helped Oakwood to a win in the third-place game of the Toyota of Danville Classic boys’ basketball tournament on Saturday (Dec. 4) at St. Joseph.
Oakwood topped Georgetown-Ridge Farm, 45-35, holding the Buffaloes to four first-half field goals.
Dalton Hobick hit a team-high 11 points. All-tournament pick Josh Young had 10 points as did Grant Powell. Josh Ruch notched eight points, including 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
On Thursday (Dec. 2), Oakwood bounced back from a loss as Powell netted 11 of his 18 points in the second quarter, helping the Comets match their season-high for points in a game.
Oakwood dispatched Cissna Park, 78-53, to secure a berth in the third-place game.
Powell and Young shared the team-lead in scoring for the Comets, who led 18-9 after one quarter and 41-22 at halftime.
Tanner Pichon and Ruch contributed nine points apiece for Oakwood. Hobick chipped in with seven points.
The Comets (8-2) return to action on Tuesday (Dec. 7) at home against St. Thomas More.
