Spartans win Toyota of Danville Classic

Tournament Most Valuable Player Ty Pence registered 14 points, nine rebounds and five assists on Saturday (Dec. 4) to spark unbeaten St. Joseph-Ogden past Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, 76-43, in the championship game in the Toyota of Danville Classic boys’ basketball tournament in the Spartans’ gym.
SJ-O had major contributions from all-tournament pick Evan Ingram (13 points and three assists), Logan Smith (11 points), Andrew Beyers (eight points), Tanner Jacob (eight points and six rebounds), Coy Taylor (seven points) and Maddux Carter (six points).
Pence had his second consecutive double-double on Friday (Dec. 3) and two teammates joined him in double figures as the Spartans dispatched Schlarman Academy, 76-48.
Pence tallied 27 points to go with a game-high 15 rebounds.
Ingram netted 18 points and Smith contributed 12 points. Ingram and Smith each cleared four rebounds.
SJ-O (5-0) returns to action on Tuesday (Dec. 7) at Hoopeston Area.
