Blue Devils return to court after COVID-related issues

The Villa Grove girls’ basketball team, returning to the court for the first time in 25 days due to COVID-19-related issues, went 0-5 in the BSN Classic at Bismarck-Henning High School.
On Wednesday (Dec. 29), Vanessa Wright made her season debut and collected seven points, including hitting 3-of-3 free throws. Teammate Emma Buesing tallied 13 points in the Blue Devils’ 52-28 loss to Oakwood in the ninth-place game. Buesing matched her season-high with three three-pointers.
Oakwood held a 22-16 halftime lead, but held VG to 12 second-half points. Ava Vollmer added four points for the Blue Devils.
On Tuesday (Dec. 28), Villa Grove dropped two decisions, losing to Lexington, 52-19, and to Cissna Park, 55-16.
Buesing tallied eight points in both games, hitting two three-point shots against each opponent.
Jobella Crafton had seven points and Jobeth Crafton four against Lexington. Jobella Crafton and Jobeth Crafton each scored three points against Cissna Park. Madison Logan added two points.
On Monday (Dec. 27), Villa Grove also suffered two losses.
Armstrong-Potomac defeated the Blue Devils, 48-21, and Benton Central, from Indiana, posted an 82-15 decision over Villa Grove.
Against A-P, Vollmer tallied a team-high six points. Buesing contributed five points and Kaylee Arbuckle scored four points.
A-P turned a 9-8 lead after one quarter into a 24-10 advantage at halftime.
Against Benton Central, Arbuckle led the way with five points. Jobella Crafton and Jobeth Crafton each hit three points. Benton Central scored all 27 of the first-quarter points.
The Blue Devils (0-8 on the court) return to action on Tuesday (Jan. 4) at Urbana Uni High.
