Chambliss, Pacot win nine matches at Land of Lincoln Wrestling Tournament

Oakwood/Salt Fork wrestlers Carter Chambliss (competing at 120 and 126 pounds) and Reef Pacot (132 pounds) won all nine of their matches during the two-day Abe’s Rumble in the Land of Lincoln Wrestling Tournament, which ended on Thursday (Dec. 30), in Springfield.
Chambliss had six pins, including four which he finished off in the first period. Pacot had seven pins, including four in the first period.
Teammates Joe Lashuay (160 and 170 pounds) and Brysen Vasquez (160 and 170 pounds) were each 8-1 during the tournament. Lashuay collected four pins, two in the first period. Vasquez registered six pins, including three in less than a minute.
Overall, Oakwood/Salt Fork was 4-5 in the dual-meet event. The Comets’ wrestlers had a collective 57-32 record in Springfield, winning 33 matches by pin. The team filled 10 of 14 weight classes.
The Comets placed 12th in the Gold Division.
Oakwood/Salt Fork defeated Roxana (40-33), Shelbyville (41-37), Camp Point Central (40-24) and Stillman Valley (36-33), but lost to Stanford Olympia (46-30), Oregon (51-25), Vandalia (51-23), Canton (40-33) and, in the 11th-place match, to Macomb (42-40).
In all, nine Oakwood/Salt Fork wrestlers had victories.
Brayden Edwards (106 pounds) was 7-2 with two pins; Brysen Capansky (138 and 145 pounds) was 7-2 with four pins; Grant Brewer (145 and 152 pounds) was 5-4 with 3 pins; Thomas Wells (113 pounds) was 3-6 and Doug Myers (182 pounds) was 1-8.
Oakwood/Salt Fork (11-8) returns to action on Tuesday (Jan. 4) with its only home meet at Fithian, which will be against Mount Zion and Tolono Unity.
