Wright scores 20 in win over Villa Grove

Addie Wright’s sixth 20-point game of the season propelled the Oakwood girls’ basketball team to a victory in its final game of the BSN Classic at Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin High School.
On Wednesday (Dec. 29), the Comets dispatched Villa Grove, 52-28, in the ninth-place game.
Wright totaled 20 points and was supported by Ashlynn Pinnick’s 10 points and Karsen Rupp’s nine points. Jaydah Arrowsmith tossed in six points.
The Comets dropped two games on Tuesday (Dec. 28), losing to North Vermillion (Ind.), 48-32, and to Tolono Unity, 49-25.
Pinnick led all scorers against North Vermillion, firing in 20 points. Twelve of her points came in the third quarter when Oakwood trimmed a 10-point halftime deficit to 35-30 after three stanzas.
Rupp and Wright each tallied four points.
Against Unity, the Comets fell behind, 14-5, after one quarter. Pinnick dropped in nine points. Rupp contributed seven points and Wright notched six points.
Oakwood started with back-to-back losses on Monday (Dec. 27) during opening-day action of the BSN Classic.
The Comets fell to Salt Fork, 47-31, and suffered a 43-36 overtime loss to the host Blue Devils.
Against Salt Fork, Pinnick and Rupp each tallied 10 points to lead the way for the Comets. Arrowsmith added five points.
Against B-H/R-A, Oakwood was unable to hold leads it held after the first (10-8) and third quarters (26-25). The teams were tied, 36-36, entering the OT session,
Wright sank a game-high 17 points for the Comets. Rupp contributed seven points and Pinnick finished with six points.
Oakwood (6-13) returns to action on Thursday (Jan. 6) at home against Chrisman.
