Athlete of the Week: Ty Pence
Ty Pence reached 1,000 career points at St. Joseph-Ogden High School on Dec. 28 as the Spartans defeated Quincy Notre Dame 43-40.
In his seventh 20-plus point game of the season, Pence scored 27 points and grabbed 4 rebounds against the Raiders.
Pence went on to score 14 points against Rockford Lutheran and 12 points against El Paso Grindley in the State Farm Classic, where the Spartans placed fourth.
Eyes have been on the 6’6” guard throughout the 2021-22 season. And Pence has delivered a headline show.
He began the season with a 36-point performance as the Spartans faced a tough opponent in Denmark High School. To open the SJO Classic, Pence scored 29 points against Cissna Park, 34 against Oakwood, 27 against Schlarman Academy and registered 14 points, nine rebounds and five assists in the title game. Pence was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Nearly halfway through the season, Pence has recorded three double-double performances, three 30-plus point games, and eight 20-plus point games.
