By Fred Kroner
Ella Armstrong drained three first-quarter three-pointers on Thursday (Jan.13), staking the St. Joseph-Ogden girls’ basketball team to a lead it never lost at Chillicothe IVC.
SJ-O raced to a 46-26 victory, hitting half of its points in the opening frame when it went ahead, 23-7.
Armstrong ended with a game-high 14 points. In all, she sank four three-pointers.
Ashlyn Lannert added 10 points for the Spartans. Addison Frick and Taylor Wells each contributed six points.
On Saturday (Jan. 15), SJ-O played Mattoon even in the second-half, but a 33-23 halftime deficit was too great to overcome and the Spartans lost on the Green Wave’s court, 61-51.
Payton Jacob tossed in a team-high 12 points. Frick added 10 points. Peyton Jones notched nine points, Wells had eight points and Armstrong finished with seven points.
The Spartans are off to a 3-0 start in Illini Prairie Conference action. SJ-O (13-6 overall) returns to action on Monday (Jan. 17) at Champaign St. Thomas More.
