Mustangs win two against Gifford and Westville

Both the seventh- and eighth-grade boys’ basketball teams from Prairieview Ogden won two of three games last week.
The eighth-graders lost at home to St. Joseph, 51-38, on Monday (Jan. 10), then won at Gifford, 52-5, on Tuesday (Jan. 11) and at home against Westville, 49-18, on Wednesday (Jan. 12).
Parker Fitch netted 19 points against St. Joseph. Coy Hayes contributed eight points, Kodey McKinney had five, Vance McComas four and Graham Ray two points.
Against Gifford, McKinney (16 points) and Hayes (11 points) spearheaded the offensive attack. McComas added eight points, Fitch and Ray each chipped in with six points, Kaden Wedig scored three points and Ethan Sanders tallied two points.
Against Westville, three PVO players hit double figures. Fitch netted 14 points, Ray had 12 and McKinney 11. Hayes had six, McComas had four and Sanders ended with two points.
The seventh-graders edged St. Joseph, 46-39, lost at Gifford, 29-28, and rebounded with a win at home over Westville, 29-21.
John Couture’s 21 points against St. Joseph was the team’s top scoring performance thus far this season. Wedig had 12 points, Dalton York added six points, Lane McKinney hit five points and Garrett Loschen chipped in with two points.
Against Gifford, Wedig was the leader with 14 points. He was followed by Alex Vaughn (five points), Loschen (four points), Lane McKinney (three points) and Couture (two points).
Three players accounted for all of the points against Westville. Wedig netted 14 points, Couture finished with nine points and Loschen dropped in six points.
The PVO eighth-graders are 14-2. The PVO seventh-graders are 10-3. The teams return to action on Wednesday (Jan. 19) at Schlarman Academy.
