Comets to play for third place in VCC tournament

The Comets’ five-game winning streak was halted on Wednesday (Jan. 19) with a 36-27 loss to Salt Fork in the Vermilion County Tournament at Danville’s Palmer Arena.
Salt Fork moves into the championship game. Oakwood will face Hoopeston Area in Friday’s third-place contest at 6:30 p.m.
Karsen Rupp and Addie Wright each hit 10 points for the Comets. Ashlynn Pinnick added five points.
Salt Fork turned a 12-8 lead after one quarter into a 16-9 edge at halftime after limiting Oakwood to only a free throw from Nikita Taylor in the second quarter.
When the schools played previously, Salt Fork won by 16 points on Dec. 27. There will be a rematch on the Comets’ court on Feb. 3.
