Young’s 22 puts Oakwood over Hoopeston

Josh Young scored a game-high 22 points on Saturday, spearheading a 59-29 Oakwood victory over Hoopeston Area in the fifth-place game of the Vermilion County Boys’ Basketball Tournament at Danville’s Palmer Arena.

Dalton Hobick tallied 14 points and Grant Powell added six points. Josh Ruch and Tanner Pichon each chipped in with five points.

The Comets turned a 14-7 lead after one quarter into a 32-12 halftime cushion.

On Thursday (Jan. 20), Young scored 14 points, but Oakwood dropped a narrow 52-46 decision to Georgetown-Ridge Farm in the Vermilion County Tournament.

G-RF led, 11-10, after one quarter and 24-21 at halftime.

Hobick hit 10 points, Powell added eight points and Pichon made seven points for the Comets.

Oakwood (17-6) returns to action on Tuesday (Jan. 25) at Georgetown-Ridge Farm.
