Chambliss and Lashuay win at Litchfield Wrestling Tournament

Freshman Carter Chambliss and senior Joe Lashuay won their weight classes for Oakwood/Salt Fork on Saturday (Jan. 27) in the regular-season ending Litchfield Wrestling Tournament.

Chambliss topped all three opponents at 120 pounds to triumph. Lashuay was also 3-0 for the day and was victorious at 160 pounds. Chambliss and Lashuay each had one pin.

Two teammates reached the finals and took second. Pedro Rangel was the runner-up at 126 pounds while Reef Pacot was second at 132 pounds. They each had 2-1 tournament marks, including one pin apiece.

Brysen Vasquez captured third at 170 pounds and Grant Brewer was fourth at 145 pounds. Vasquez’s 2-1 tourney slate featured two pins. Brewer was 2-2 and pinned one opponent.

Brayden Edwards placed fifth at 106 pounds. He was 2-1 at Litchfield, with two pins. Thomas Wells was 2-2 at 113 pounds and ended in sixth place. Wells registered two pins.

Other Comet placers were Bryson Capansky, who had two pins and a 3-2 record en route to a seventh-place finish at 138 pounds, and Jamison VanVickle, who went 2-3 for the day and placed eighth at 285 pounds.

Overall, Oakwood/Salt Fork grapplers had a 23-17 cumulative tournament record with 13 pins.

Lena-Winslow was the meet champion with 212 points. Vandalia was the team runner-up (177 ½ points), followed by Auburn (160 ½ points) and Oakwood/Salt Fork (152 points).

Oakwood/Salt Fork returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 5) in the Class 1A Heyworth Regional. Eleven schools are in the field. Others besides the Comets and Heyworth are Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, Clinton, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, Hoopeston Area, LeRoy, Rantoul, Stanford Olympia, St. Joseph-Ogden and St. Thomas More.
