Spartan still at top of Illini Prairie Conference standings

St. Joseph-Ogden maintained its position atop the Illini Prairie Conference girls’ basketball standings on Thursday (Jan. 27) with a 56-27 win at home over Bloomington Central Catholic.
Peyton Jones swished three first-quarter three-pointers and canned a team-high 16 points in the win. SJ-O led, 21-7, after one quarter.
Other top Spartan scorers were Ella Armstrong (13 points) and Taylor Wells (nine points).
SJ-O moved its lead to 37-14 at halftime.
On Saturday (Jan. 29), the Spartans lost to Pana, 66-32, in the Illini Prairie/Sangamo Shootout at Williamsville High School.
Armstrong pumped in a team-high 15 points to lead SJ-O. Lannert made nine points and Addy Martinie chipped in with three points.
Armstrong and Lannert each nailed three three-point baskets.
Pana raised an 18-12 lead after one quarter into an insurmountable 40-22 cushion at halftime. SJ-O connected on just three second-half field goal attempts.
The Spartans (17-7 overall and 7-0 in the IPC) return to action on Monday (Jan. 31) at Rantoul.
