Rangel, Pacot, Brewer and Lashuay advance in Regional match

The Oakwood/Salt Fork wrestling team produced four individual weight class champions on Saturday (Feb. 5) in the 11-school Heyworth Class 1A Regional.
Pedro Rangel (126 pounds), Reef Pacot (132 pounds), Grant Brewer (145 pounds) and Joe Lashuay (160 pounds) were all unbeaten at the regional.
Brewer (32-10 season record) pinned all three of his opponents. Lashuay (30-5) secured one win by pin along with a dominant 19-4 technical fall triumph in the title match.
Pacot (36-4) wrestled twice and had 16-0 and 17-2 wins. Rangel (28-4) was 3-0 for the day, winning once by pin and by a 5-4 decision in the finals.
Three other teammates advanced to the upcoming Class 1A sectional at Stanford Olympia by finishing among the top three at their weight classes.
Bryson Capansky (138 pounds) was 2-1 at the regional and was the runner-up in his weight class.
Placing third were Brayden Edwards (106 pounds) and Brysen Vasquez (170 pounds). They each compiled 3-1 tournament records.
Two other Oakwood/Salt Fork wrestlers placed fourth and will be alternants at their weight class in the event one of the top three placers can not compete.
Carter Chambliss (120 pounds) and Jamison VanVickle (285 pounds) placed fourth. VanVickle had a 3-2 regional record and Chambliss was 2-2.
Another teammate who won a match at the tournament, but did not advance, was Doug Myers (182 pounds), who registered one pin, and was 1-2 for the tournament.
Overall, Oakwood/Salt Fork wrestlers compiled a 25-13 cumulative record, with 13 pins and three wins by technical fall.
Lashuay and VanVickle are the team’s only seniors.
Oakwood/Salt Fork filled 12 of the 14 weight classes and placed second in the team standings.
Ridgeview was the meet champion (175 points), followed by the Comets (169 points) and third-place LeRoy (144 points).
The two-day Stanford Olympia Sectional starts on Friday (Feb. 11).
