Mustangs end season with 17-3 record

The eighth-grade boys’ basketball team from Prairieview Ogden finished the season with an overall 17-3 record.
Two of the losses were administered by Schlarman Academy, including a 39-34 setback in the championship game of an IESA Class 1A regional tournament on Monday (Feb. 7).
PVO’s previous loss to Schlarman was by 16 points.
In the rematch, Parker Fitch hit a team-high 15 points. Kodey McKinney made nine points. Graham Ray added eight points and Coy Hayes had two points.
The Mustangs reached the finals by virtue of a 47-28 conquest of Chrisman in the semifinals.
Fitch led the way with 22 points. Hayes netted 11 points, Kodey McKinney had 10 points, Lane McKinney had two points and Graham Ray also contributed two points.
For the season, Kodey McKinney led the team in scoring in eight games. Fitch was the leader in seven games, Hays in four games and Ray in two games.
Fitch tallied 229 points for the year. Kodey McKinney ended with 228 points and Hayes ended with 196 points.
Other squad members who reached the scoring column were Ray (108 points), Vance McComas (47 points), John Couture (40 points), Kaden Wedig (38 points), Ethan Sanders (20 points), Dalton York (13 points) and Lane McKinney (2 points).
The best scoring games for the eighth-graders were by Kodey McKinney (23 points) and Fitch (22 points).
The PVO seventh-graders compiled a final mark of 12-4 after falling in the Class 1A IESA regional finals to Schlarman Academy, 29-27, on Wednesday (Jan. 26).
Lane McKinney sparked the offense with nine points. Wedig had six points, Couture had four points as did Garrett Loschen and York.
Overall, Wedig was the team’s top scorer in eight games. Couture set the pace in five games. Loschen and York led in two games and Lane McKinney was tops in one game.
Wedig (177 points) and Couture (157 points) were the top point-makers for the year.
They were followed by York (81 points), Loschen (67 points), Alex Vaughn (41 points), Lane McKinney (36 points), Jaxson LaBounty (11 points), Adam Marschke (9 point), Aiden Hundley (7 points), Mason Ramm (4 points), Donovan Taylor (4 points) and Lucas Waters (3 points).
The team’s best scoring outputs were by Couture (21 points) and Wedig (20 points).
